Ms. B recently sent an urgent e-mail about her preschool student, Joshua
My response
I visited Josh and his teacher the very next day and stood him up in a chair next to one of the computers. He was allowed to lean forward to get close to the monitor and --yessiree-- he could see much better looking down at the screen! (You should have seen the smile)
The cute computer tables just didn't have the right arrangement for Josh's vision with the monitor on the top shelf and the keyboard on the lower table part. Mrs. B___ is going to see if the custodian can lower the table and I sugested covering a telephone book as a booster seat. On one of her computer tables there is enough room to bring the monitor down to table level and place the keyboard and mouse pad next to it. That will be the one Joshua will use.
CASE SOLVED! ;D
Kathy, this D___ B___. You work with my student, Joshua ___ at (school).
This morning when he was on the computer, Joshua was looking up at the computer. When I told him to hold his head down, Joshua told me he couldn't see it too good. So I moved him to one the higher computers. He was STILL holding his head up!
When the others were on the computer, I noticed their head was more even with the computer, UNLIKE Joshua's!
I don't want him to be the only one who doesn't get a chance to get to use the computer. HELP!! WHAT DO I DO??
If you can, will you come and see what I'm talking about some time this week? We have early dismissal WED., THURS., and FRI.

Joshua's field of vision may be best in the part of his eyes where he's looking from--the bottom part. We may have to put the monitor on a lower table or a sunken computer table so he can see it in the bottom quadrant of his field of vision. I have had a student who sees like this before and another who could see in the top field of vision.
Let him show you how he sees it best and hold his head the way he is comfortable. It's perfectly OK for him to do that. Also let him get very close if he needs to. If it's magnification some programs can enlarge the text and enlarge the view of a picture. The media specialist at your school may have to call the network tech to get to the conrol panel and enlarge the mouse pointer because this network program for ___ schools does not let us get to the control panel.
I will look for a magnifying screen that goes in front of a monitor and we can try that, too. They have some distortion but in a pinch it's better than nothing. I will be there today because I need to sit with T___ again, so I will drop by to see Joshua, too.
