Here's one the kids like to make and that everyone can contribute to. I started making them with my daughter when she was in elemntary school because having the milk allergy, the regular fast food shakes are off limits to us. Besides, this shake is cooler and healthier.
YOU WILL NEED
ice cubes (about 2 cups)
1/4 cup honey (you can also use Equal or sugar to taste)
1 large banana
2 cups of your favorite berries (we used strawberries and blueberries toether and it was delish--or try strawberries and kiwi fruit)
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt (optional)
ITEMS
plastic knives--1 for each little "chopper"
blender (to be used by adult only)
paper/styrofoam plates
drinking straws
favorite cups
Spatula
paper towels--of course!
beach towels, sunglasses and deck chairs ;D
WHAT YOU DO:
Let the little "choppers" cut up the banana and berries on paper plates.
Give one of the children the task of putting 1/2 of the ice cubes in the blender. Crush them and then allow the child to add the rest of the cubes. (You may need to stop the blender and move the cubes around with the spatula.)
Allow each chopper to put his her chopped fruit in the blender. Add sweetner and yogurt.
Blend until the mixture looks like a slush drink or a milk shake. You may need to stop and scrap the bottom with the spatula.
Pour into cups. Insert straws. Get everyone to help clean up before they take their drinks.
Put on shades and relax on beach towels or deck chairs.
Repeat as often as necessary.
